Construction valuation
The reported dollar value of the construction a permit authorizes.
Valuation is the estimated cost of construction stated on the permit application. It reflects building cost, not land or final market value, and is self-reported by the applicant, so it's an approximate measure.
A quirk worth knowing: the Census reports valuation in thousands of dollars in the state and metro files but in whole dollars in the county and place files. PUMSdata normalizes everything to whole dollars so the figures are directly comparable across geographies.
Also known as: construction value, permit value.
